If you are near or farsighted, options are available to help reduce the thickness of your lenses. First, you should consider using a material higher rate of lenses to help reduce the size. Different materials have different levels of index, and because the level is directly related to the ability correction, a level higher index means less material is needed. Choosing the right material is important in limiting the thickness of the lens of glasses.
The largest of classified materials are glass lenses with indexes between 1.8 and 1.9. Unfortunately, these high-end lenses are difficult get (only a few manufacturers available), and are expensive. Plastic lenses with rates between 1.6 and 1.74 are the best choice and are considered high index. These plastic lenses are thinner available for all plastic lenses much less expensive than glass options. Then the high-end materials plastics are polycarbonate lenses. The polycarbonate lenses have an index of 1.59, and are very light and Durbal. Trivex is the lowest index material after 1.53. With an index of 1.52 is the crown glass, which is quite heavy and thicker than the other materials discussed so far. Finally, there is CR-39, a plastic material with an index 1.5. CR-39 is lighter than the crown glass, but is the most thick glasses available.
Once you have selected the appropriate lens material for your needs, there otpions others to consider. Will have edges polished glasses look thinner. You can choose to either flush, or clear polish. Satin enamel will edge less visible, so that the lens seems considerably smaller. A shiny glaze will have some effect, but not as drastic as the clear nail polish.
Having the edges of color will also help the overall goal seem less heavy. This option works well with plastic frames that are more larger than most. Coinciding with the edge of the lens with the frame color, it looks as if the edge is actually part of the plot, thus making it difficult to distinguish thickness. The thickness of the structure is also important. The thicker a frame, the less chance there is of a lens protruding beyond it.
Avoid the use of tires that do not cover the entire circumference of the lens. Leaving the lens in clearly show the actual thickness of the lens. Again, a plastic frame is ideal to cover the entire lens, as they tend to be thicker than metal. Balancing the edges that used to be common also, but is losing popularity with the new lens materials has been obtained. The rolled edge process simply consists of rounding off the edges so that a different plane edge is not present.
