When you are packing for a trip, you might automatically think that you need to purchase a suitcase for your belongings. The truth is that there are many different types of luggage styles and you can select whichever pieces best fit your travel plans.
Suitcases are generally somewhat large in size and are made out of fabric. Most suitcases today come with wheels and a handle which will help you move it with ease. You can also find hardside suitcases in which the sides of the case are made from polycarbonate.
For shorter trips, you might consider using a duffel. Duffels are usually rectangular in shape and have fabric handles. A duffel can be made of many different types of material. You'll often see people using duffels when they go to the gym. If you like the simplicity of a duffel but want to be able to transport it easily, consider getting a wheeled duffel. It is the same basic idea as a duffel bag, but it has wheels on the bottom and an extending handle.
A tote is similar to a duffle. Generally totes are smaller and can be easily carried over the shoulder. They are good to take on trips to store books or toys for children. Totes can be used around town too as a diaper bag or to carry items on an outing. Wheeled totes are often used by professionals to carry their laptops, paperwork and files.
If you are packing clothing that is not conducive to being folded, a garment bag comes in handy. Your clothing can be kept on hangers which typically come out of a slit in the top of the garment bag. This way you can keep them from getting wrinkled while protecting them from getting dirty. Garment bags are also available on wheels. Some garment bags have roll bars inside which also protects from wrinkles and typically eliminates the need for hangers.
When traveling by plane, you will want to use a wheeled carry-on. A carry-on is smaller than a suitcase and is designed to fit into the overhead storage bins or under an airplane seat. You should also consider purchasing a cosmetic case which are usually small in size. They typically have some sort of plastic inside to prevent spills.
If you are unsure what type of luggage style you will use most often, considering buying a luggage set. You can get several coordinating pieces and usually for a discount over what you would pay if you purchased them separately. It is best to purchase quality pieces such as Samsonite luggage which is durable and attractive.
