Safety Glasses and Their Importance
I decided to write and article on safety glasses because there is a dramatic amount of work place injuries that happen in the US everyday.and they estimate that over 1000 of those injuries are eye related injuries. The reality is that most injuries are easily preventable. Considering the great costs of workplace injuries, an estimated $300 million dollars that is lost due to lost labor, medical expenses, and workers compensation. The simple fact is that this is mainly contributed to the lack of training and simple human stupidity. All companies that work in a hazardous shop, for insurance reasons are required to wear safety glasses, however when accidents occur, you can see how these rules
The most common eye hazards happen in an industrial work setting, although eye injuries can happen in almost every industry out there. How do these eye related injuries happen?

According to the BLS however, they claim that 40% of all eye related injuries tend to happen among the craft workers such as mechanics, carpenters & machinists.
Reasons behind these occurrences happening are due mainly to two majors reasons. They were not wearing their safety glasses at the time of the injury, or they were wearing the wrong type of eye protection for the job, meaning they had no side shields or full cup.
We know the rules of the job so ask yourself how can these eye injuries be prevented? Always wear effective eye protection either safety glasses, goggles or a face shield. OSHA standards require that employers provide workers with suitable eye protection. Do some research and find out what type of safety glasses will be need for your particular job, whether your the boss or the employee, safety standards are always changing, its your job to keep informed. Best protection is afforded when safety goggles are worn with face shields.
Better training and education & maintenance of safety glasses. By keeping your safety glasses properly maintained you could reduce the amount of scratches and dirt that may cause glare and contribute to accidents. If you follow some really simple steps it could definitely help in preventing a serious eye injury or even a loss of an eye.
