There are two basic rules of weight loss, at least healthy weight loss. In fact, these two rules can be expressed in just two words - exercise and nutrition. These are natural, in more ways than you can imagine.

Certainly, there are plenty of other things you can do to "help" your weight loss program, but that's about all they are for most people - assistants. Most, however, are not natural. Diet pills, the fad diets and extreme measures are not "natural" and may even cause the body to do things against nature ... to death.

You might think that approximately two thirds of the adult population of the overweight U.S. is that the problem would be much more complicated than it is! However, truth about weight loss and weight gain is simple. If you eat more calories than your body can use, weight gain. If you use more calories to eat lose weight. Weight gain and weight loss is not anything more "natural" than that!

As simple as the equation appears, however, the solution can be difficult due to several factors, and the problem is confounded by natural factors. As with our bodies as nature can help you lose weight, our lives are not natural, causing the body's natural processes to malfunction.

At first, our bodies were designed to be very efficient machines in a rather inefficient. However, over time, certain aspects of our world became more efficient, and many of our physical system became obsolete.

One simple example of this is the hormone cortisol, commonly known diet pill pushers and the "stress hormone" and often blames "the" guilty when it is a mistake to lose weight. While it is true that cortisol is associated with times of stress, which is what nature wanted was associated. In fact, it serves a function when our ancestors were likely to have to escape from bears or lions, and then walk several miles to reach home ... I hope they carry lots of wolves and bears.

At present, the bear is the boss, bills, neighbors of the children, and traffic which we encounter every day. No walk home cortisol to help perform their normal functions, so it conducts its business of helping prepare the body to repair physical damage that never happened and not replace the calories burned.

We do not even have to ride a horse. Not even have to mistreat non-power steering equipped vehicles more. For years, one of the greatest enemies of weight loss and health has been the television. More recently, TV's ability to deprive us of healthy activity and exercise has been improved by the invention of remote control.

I remember my father out of the chair several times in one night, walking around the room, bending to turn the dial, maybe play with the setup, and then return to his chair (which the cat had been shattered.) Yesterday night, I, the fitness guru who uses the remote control to change channels several times, never once leaving part of my wife as we both fell into oblivion the soft double sofa ... the cat best left alone if you know what's good for him.

Is it any wonder that when I woke up this morning, I had go in that same living room and scheduled physical activity ... walk on the treadmill as part of my ongoing effort to combat the combined forces of time, gravity and inertia?

Our ancestors never had to "programming" exercise. Was an integral part of their lives.

The food was not.

They do not could rise from his seat on a rock beside the fire, walk to the fridge in the corner of the cave and back with a multi-calorie sandwich ... several times a night. When could eat, ate, and when I could not, did not. If one bear pursued and had to spend large amounts of energy in the hope of self-preservation, that cortisol nasty old said their bodies what to spend and how, and when finished, cortisol bad ol 'again helped them feel the need to replenish their power to withstand the next attack.

As they ran through the forest, they might find some berries or nuts, but there was of McRockald or StoneburgerKing in every corner offered to provide additional carbohydrates as the tribal leader was threatening to let them go.

They had no sugar potatoes or French or white bread or dairy Queens.

In all honesty, even taking into account the best efforts of health and physical condition, which today probably have better opportunities to eat well and be physically fit than our ancestors ever had. It is also true, however, that these scientific advances we have so richly endowed with a bright future full of wonders has at the same time, had the effect of making healthy weight loss difficult, as simple as may seem.

While there who want to return to earlier periods when what passes for "good" health is looked at with suspicion by a living person Today, it is worth remembering that our bodies were planned and designed to operate in such periods, and until that changes enough to reality, any attempt wise weight loss should be designed with two things in mind ... exercise and proper nutrition.
