The most fundamental difference between these models and reading eyeglasses is that they have the same prescription for each eye / lens, usually 1 to 3.
Prescription reading glasses are customized for each individual and each eye, and often have a different recipe for each. They can also correct astigmatism if necessary.
The "Ready Readers" are made in large quantities and tend to be very cheap. The manufacturing process means that the frame is one piece, so it can not be reused or lenses to change if there is any difficulty, such as a crack in the lens or a change in prescription. Even readers highest quality lists that can be Metal frames do not have screws so it can not be changed or adjusted easily.
Prescription glasses and frames can be reused if they alter its recipe. Lenses focus in front of your eyes with the PD (pupillary distance), while the RR is focused in the center of your frame. Also, the requirement is by definition more precise.
Due to the strength of the lens of Ready Readers is an approximation (and often self-diagnosis), which tend to be less accurate and can cause fatigue visual - though this will not cause permanent eye damage, can be uncomfortable if you use glasses for prolonged periods
In general, if you are fortunate enough that both eyes have the same recipe, it is likely to be a minimum purchase of some "off the shelf" readers ready for backup - but it is worth considering alwys also prescribe reading glasses to make sure that you take better care of one of its most valuable assets.
