Paul Smith is known to be a fashion designer but has also designed furniture and upholstery textiles. In 2002, he collaborated with Cappellini to create the Mondo collection and in 2003 launched 'as' a Maharam upholstery fabrics. He also designs a collection Carpet of The Rug Company.
Paul Smith boutiques have always been an important aspect of his work. They reflect its character and design, a distinctive British increased by the unexpected. Paul Smith was born in Nottingham in 1946. He left school at the age 15 with the sole ambition of becoming a cyclist, until his father took him to work in a clothing store. It was not until an accident ended his dreams of becoming a cyclist Paul Smith began to become more involved in their work, and it was pure coincidence that he met with students from an art school and became in interested in art and fashion.
Paul Smith began to study tailoring at night, and with the help of his girlfriend (now wife), Pauline Denyer, who was the usual degree of the Royal College of Art, opened its first shop in Nottingham in 1970. In 1976, he showed his first menswear collection in Paris under the Paul Smith label. Today there are 13 collections sold in seventy-five countries. Paul Smith stores are in London, Paris, Milan, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Antwerp, Singapore, Hong Kong, Soeul, Moscow, Cape Town and 200 in Japan. Paul Smith is still an integral part of the company, which is both the designer and president.
Previous guests of honor include Patricia Urquiola, Spain, the brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, France, Naoto Fukasawa, Japan, Konstantin Grcic, Germany, Giulio Cappellini, Italy and, more recently, Ineke Hans, the Netherlands.
The next Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair will place on February 9-13, Week 6 of 2010, with a new room with an additional 10,000 m2, and the new weekday, Tuesday - Saturday.
