BlueStone Construction | Old World Wood in lakehome MN
What is the difference between an average middle class house and a final Minnesota lake one of a kind, a superior? In a word, "detail." A detail that adds individuality as much as does the historical depth would be the use of " old world wood. "woods of the old world come from the structures that often predate the Civil War.
There is a rich history associated with these old woods. When we build with them, we strive to document its history for future owners do not lose sight of the rich heritage of their timber to provide a feeling cabin in general. Here's one of those stories of some old world wood has been used recently:
St. Joseph Catholic Church located in the town of Marathon, New York was built first in these woods in 1857. As part of that structure until 1912. At that time, San Jose decided to build new ones.
Back then, people do not throw things as they do today. Recovery of old equipment was a common practice because new material was expensive and difficult to find, money was scarce and labor was cheap. Robert Ahrens acquired the material from the old church in 1912 and used for build a barn in his hotel 5 miles south of the city of Marathon. Reclaimed wood was not enough to complete your project barn all freshly cut material was used in combination with reclaimed wood.
It is easy to identify which materials originated from the old church when looking at the barn. Those parts mortise pockets that had the wrong way, or used wrongly indicate that the beams were used before.
Merlin Schumacher bought the property in 1987 and in 2009 sold the farm to Scott Slingsog. Mr. Slingsog remove the salvageable material that eventually led to BlueStone use. "
Think of the many important events and conversations witnessed these woods. Think about what it took to make each one. The sheer physical labor led him to stick his hand each piece of a tree trunk virgin points back to a time when hard work own hands was used as the quality and self-respect.
At that time, the simple life and appreciation for what he defined success. Were testament to a life well lived.
