If you have ever seen Tom Cruise in "Risky Business", I remember two things. The first is the most famous scene in the movie, one in which has been falling in the dance hall in his underwear, and second, how well he looked in glasses. Cruise sported Ray Ban sunglasses in this movie and became a hit as great as the movie itself. By the time this film was made in 1983 however, Ray-Ban had already been making popular sunglasses for 46 years.
The optical company Bausch & Lomb launched the first Ray Ban sunglasses in 1936, which were the sunglasses anti-glare aviator. They were the first to use technology of polarized, which was developed by Edwin H. Land, founder of the Polaroid Corporation. These sunglasses lenses were large, about two or three times the size of eye socket in the form of an oblique tear. Instead of being flat, these glasses were slightly convex. The objective of these large, curved glasses was to protect the eyes from every angle for optimal sun protection. In the 1940's, Ray Ban was hired by the U.S. Air Force to further develop these glasses for the use of air force pilots. Aviator glasses soon became popular with the other branches of the U.S. armed forces as well as General Douglas MacArthur was photographed on a beach landing in the Philippines during World War II, wearing a pair of Ray Ban.
Ray Ban has been based on photographs of celebrities to promote their glasses over the years. The Blues Brothers, Miami Vice, Don Johnson, Michael Jackson and Madonna are just some of the people who join Tom Cruise and Ray Ban users and developers. Ray Ban Aviator has been maintained in the style of decades, but the company also moved with the times in terms of its other models. There bright pictures, colors to reflect the style of the 60 large bright tones in the 70's, and the designs of the 80 sports.
From the beginning, the Ray Ban sunglasses has been at the forefront of technology for eye protection. These glasses stay in style, not only for their beautiful celebrities but also because they are well made and practical.
