How to detail your car to a presentation like a pro in minutes
Throughout our business, we have the opportunity to attend many shows vehicles to demonstrate and market our products. The sample that we could be a casual cruise on a local or national meeting. Regardless of the type of show - There's always one thing that stands out - a very detailed car!
Your trip could be a "driver", a competition of quality "trailer-queen" or even a race car. No matter what you drive, there is no doubt that a detailed car that "appears" attention. And who does not like driving a car very detailed? And if you're a gear head like me, yes I have a great job!
Some of these programs are designed to be just "fun" while others are highly competitive. For example in the Mid America Truck show they have a show and shine. All these "great teams" are working trucks. The judges actually use white gloves! These guys even wax the inside of the frame rails - and detail of the tires inside the tread. I could not understand detail until I attended last year's event with our Canadian distributor Stephane Gauthier who is well known in the Big Rig Show and circuit brightness. Detailing their teams begin the week before the show.
Assuming you do not have a week to devote to details and organization of a car at a show and judges are not wearing white gloves, I'll try to share with you tips and techniques for preparing your trip to the fair site. Now your car can not see the water and be towed to the event in an enclosed trailer, or it may be a cruise and drive - the process is about the same - and you can see just as well - all in the details!
Suppose we are starting with a fairly clean surface - no sense to put the wax and dressings on dirty, dirty, or contaminated surfaces.
Start with the exterior. Think in detail your car like painting a room - always start from the top down. The reason is that if there is any overspray wax or dressings, you can take as you work your way down the vehicle's surface.
If you have a convertible or vinyl top, it's time for him dress it! Let's talk about dressing here. For the most part, there are basically two types of dressings for vinyl, rubber and plastic - all of them are either based water or solvent base. You have to use solvent based dressings for the exterior of your trip - solvent based dressings do not wash immediately and get rid as dressings Water-based is, in my opinion give a rich and deep gloss. In addition, a solvent based dressing, like our Super Blue will do a better job of packaging and UV protection.
I always suggest dedicating an applicator for solvent-based preparation. The reason for this is that you want to do this as efficiently as possible and minimize any cleaning spray. Start with spraying small amount of dressing on the applicator and wipe the entire top from front to back. Now - this is where some people leave and become streaky-looking results. To eliminate this - repeat the process from side to side, front to back. This technique intersect ensures uniform coverage and eliminates any possibility of getting those dreaded streaks when it dries.
If you do not have a convertible or vinyl top, start retailer with a fast / spray wax and a clean microfiber towel on the surface of the roof.
Before we start, let's talk a bit about your quick retail / Spray wax and microfiber towel. For best results, you must use a quick retail / spray wax that will not scratch. Some, due to moisture and temperature when applied - the end result is you want to improve the look of your car - do not add spots or stripes. Also look for a quick retail / spray wax that contains a small amount of carnauba - as an added benefit also extends to the protection of any existing wax you have on your ride. We also recommend with a clean microfiber towel dedicated to this purpose.
By using the quick retail / spray wax - a little goes a long way. Just spray the product lightly. Other add more protection and "pop" to the surface, but will also serve as a lubricant that helps to float safely dust and dirt. Our natural tendency is that if something is good, more is better, right? Like me with laundry detergent - wrong! All you end up doing is losing the product and making a mess.
The reason why we recommend a microfiber is that if used correctly, will not scratch the surface of your trip. Do not treat the towel Microfiber like sandpaper - wipe gently, turning the towel frequently - the towel do the job. Does not add any brightness or brightness rubbing my hard and even a microfiber can scratch the paint if you rub hard enough. Simply turning the towel frequently and easily remove excess collect dust, dirt road or splatter of errors. Usually concentrate on a concentrate in an area about 2 feet by 2 feet at a time - the old cliché applies here - the life of an inch to inch child's play! Do your entire surface of the deck.
Next, let down the glass with your retailer Fast / Spray Wax. Now some of these products do not work well on glass, but good, like our Main Showroom Spray Wax shine. Spray a little on the glass surfaces, then wipe with a microfiber towel. The micro becomes a snap to clean contaminants like bug splatter if it was fair, and highly absorbent to absorb any excess detail spray. Its rapid retail / wax spray the windows will pop!
Now is the time to start the front of your journey. Start at the hood and keep working down. After the bell is removed, I moved to the front of the vehicle. Repeat the same process, paying special attention the corners of the grill and other car accessories, including headlights and grille.
Staying with the front of your ride, I start on the front fenders. Repeat the same process. Do not worry about any vinyl, rubber or plastic trim, I usually save that for last. Make sure you hit the chrome your quick detail / spray wax and painted surfaces. At the moment - to step back, take a look around and admire your work - things are starting to meet after a few minutes!
They then move to the rear of the vehicle. Start on another big surface - the trunk lid. After the trunk is made - continue to the rear of the vehicle, again doing all painted surfaces and chrome. Then move on to the hindquarters. Usually then will the two doors and surfaces between the front and back one last time.
Now is the time you want to dress the rubber, plastic and vinyl cutting on their walk. Again, apply the product with an applicator instead of spraying it on - it saves cleaning time. Do not worry or fret if you have any of the preparation contiguous surface painted or chrome - just wipe with a microfiber towel!
After dressing the cut in the body of your ride, go to the wells wheels. Yes - the wheel wells. Use the dressing to spray under the wheel wells to make it look like new. It is difficult to hide the dust or debris that may be accumulated driving to the show or parking at the fair and will look like new! Next hit your tires. There is nothing better player than just tires dressed - Remember - it's all about the details!
Again, I suggest you wear clean the tires with an applicator for two reasons. First, not only minimize any cleaning spray. Secondly, we all have personal preferences about shine and finish - clean product allows you to get the exact finish you want - the heavier you apply it the brightest of the surface.
As a last step, the use of rapid retail / wax aerosol microfiber towel on your rims / wheels. This last step allows you to wipe any excess clothing from the wheels.
Take another breath and step back and admire their work. Next - let's look inside.
Start by cleaning the interior glass. If necessary, use a cup run cleaner and a microfiber towel dedicated to clean glass. Remember to clean up the waste in the dash and door panels. Using microfiber towel, wipe the dust off the dashboard cover the back cover and the rest of your interior trim.
After cleaning the interior, open the door and pay attention to the jambs. The use of a rapid retail / Spray wax, spritz the surfaces and collect dirt that may be present.
As a final touch, a touch of spray use to dress for difficult places access, as our board of ventilation magical clothing to remote areas as the conduit that carries wiring for power windows and locks. Will them look like new!
Open the hood and trunk and clean the cabinets. Use your spray wax / quick retailer if necessary. Heed seams on the hood and trunk meet the body - on both sides of the panels - remember - it's all in the details!
Grab your lawn chair, get a cold beverage and admire your ride - and watch as everyone else.
