Lasik Eye Surgery Recovery Issues
In most cases, recovery from LASIK eye surgery is quick and uneventful. However, like most all medical procedures, there are certain risks, ut if you take the recommended precautions, have little to worry about.
One of the most important for promoting the healing process is to avoid dry eyes. Dry eyes can act as an abrasive in the cornea and invite infection. You want to use artificial tear drops on a regular basis during healing, especially if you feel the dryness. Additional unwanted side effect of dryness is more likely to want to rub your eyes.
Friction, especially during the first week or two should be strictly avoided. Rubbing can scratch the cornea or worse - Which can cause the corneal flap to become detached, requiring medical attention for correction.
During the first four hours after surgery LASIK eye doctor will prescribe medication to be applied frequently, usually every 15 minutes. These medications usually consist of steroids promote healing and antibiotics to prevent infection. Be sure to comply with the prescribed regimen of applying these medications.
You can limit reading, watching television or working on the computer for the first couple of days after LASIK eye surgery. Although you will notice a marked improvement in your vision, you may be subject to headaches if you overdo things during the early stages of recovery.
Avoid dusty areas or location with particulate matter in the air. For example, do not cut the grass as the mower can still up grass clippings or other debris that can enter in the eyes and cause complications. Also keep in mind that pet hair can sometimes float in the air and enters your eyes, even if not aware of the intrusion.
Be careful when swimming, not to allow the flow of water to hit your eyes. Also, do not allow soap or shampoo in your eyes. Avoid baths Steam and pools during the healing process. It is also a good idea to give up any strenuous exercise or sports activities. It is important to protect the eyes of any undue pressure and not allow foreign objects coming into contact with eyes.
During the healing process, you may notice that your eyes are very sensitive to bright light, so be sure to wear sunglasses when going outdoors.
Complications during recovery from LASIK eye surgery are rare, but they are produced. If you notice anything questionable during your recovery period, be sure to consult your doctor immediately.
