From year to year, it is hard to remember what movies or actors win Oscars. But one thing we can not forget is fashion - what makes us swoon in admiration and what makes us gasp with horror. With our panel of experts from the fashion school, lets take a look back at past award ceremonies of the Academy, and remember dresses on the red carpet was even bigger news of the winners.
Nicole Kidman, 1996. Before she walked the carpet with red china dress inspired by John Galliano for Dior, Nicole Kidman was known primarily as the wife of Tom Cruise. But everything changed overnight. No one had used chartreuse never before. No one had brought a cheongsam Asia. Cruise nobody noticed.
Gwyneth Paltrow, 1999. Best Actress Winner Shakespeare in Love, Paltrow was the belle of the ball in his pink Ralph Lauren. Some fashion critics thought it was too big for her, but when she slipped across the stage to accept his Oscar, he looked like Hollywood royalty.
Elizabeth Taylor, 1970. Violet-blue building that was Edith Head game with their eyes, Taylor stole the show, but it was not just for clothing. She also wore a 69 carat diamond from Cartier around her neck.
Halle Berry 2002. Burgundy Berry in Elie Saab dress with tulle top embroidered with silk, was one of those dresses that redefine fashion design Oscar. This was not a beautiful gown, but a fresh new look has been copied endlessly ever since.
Lizzy Gardiner, 1995. The costume designer Oscar winner Priscilla, Queen of the desert created a dress for herself made of 254 American Express Gold Card. It is likely that dressed only in a deliberate sense of humor has been widely admired as well.
Julia Roberts 2001. When the bride of America won her Oscar for Erin Brockavich, wearing a Vintage black Valentino with white trim that made him a winner before her name was called even. Pretty woman, indeed.
Sharon Stone 1996. One of the most polarizing looks ever, Stone paired a black tea mock turtleneck from the Gap with a Valentino skirt. While some felt that the actress Oscar fashion fun, others felt that showed innovation. This was not the first time Stone had shown a talent for combining a base cabinet with a piece design. In 1999, he led a Vera Wang skirt with a white dress shirt of her husband.
Audrey Hepburn, 1954. Before the days the paparazzi red carpet, Oscar fashions were not as well documented. It is a testament to the beauty of belt Hepburn, Givenchy's floral dress which remains one of the dresses Oscar more timeless.
Cher, 1986. Cher joked that he had read the Oscar manual on how to dress like a serious actress when she was a midriff-baring Bob Mackie black number with a large, feathered headdress. Say what you will about her fashion choices, our experts at the University of deal fashion Cher makes it fun to see Oscar.
Bjork 2001. As Joan Rivers noted in his commentary on fashion the day after the Oscar, Bjork was an intelligent artist, because she and her swan dress appeared in every newspaper. His gaze was roundly ridiculed, but publicity-wise, the singer had the last laughter.
These ten icons red carpet show that the Oscars are more than just an awards ceremony. It's the biggest fashion show of the season.
