The HTC Magic is the latest launch from the house of Vodafone and HTC.
Hardware
The HTC Magic is available only in white and black colour schemes in the United Kingdom, Spain, and France. It will be available in black in Germany and in both these hues in Italy. The small sized phone fits comfortably into the hand. It is very light weight and slim. The chassis of the phone is minimalist, contemporary and stylish. There is a wide 3.2 inches touch screen on the face of the phone. Besides using the finger swipes on the screen, you can also use the nice little track ball on the phone for scrolling through menus.
Operating System and Communication
The HTC Magic is powered by the Android Operating system.
The phone supports Voice memo, SMS, MMS, E-mail and Instant Messaging. It has a document viewer that enables the user to view documents in the popular formats like MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and PDF while on the go. The HTC Magic has a phone book that can support virtually unlimited entries and which also has a photo call feature to enable quick calling of contacts. The phone can store unlimited number of records of dialed, received and missed calls. The phone supports handwriting recognition.
The flip side of the communication feature package of the phone is that it has no physical QWERTY keypad. The virtual QWERTY keypad appears only in portrait mode. This makes typing errors very common. The virtual QWERTY keypad covers a lot of screen space; so you can't get a bigger view of what you type. Text input can hence become quite tedious; however with practice things begin to become brighter.
Multimedia
There is an audio player that supports AAC, AAC+, AMR-NB, MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC-LC, MIDI, and OGG audio file formats. The phone has video recording capabilities. Sharing video with family and friends is a breeze as you can use MMS or email for this purpose. You can also upload videos on You Tube.
The HTC Magic has 192 MB internal memory that can be augmented to 16 GB to store more music, images and video.
The HTC Magic's mobile internet is being touted as its USP. It hence boasts of high speed 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, HSUPA at up to 2 Mbps for fast uploads, Wi-Fi and data connection options like HSCSD and EDGE technologies, for enhancing mobile internet experience. Wi-Fi allows seamless transition to open networks. Google applications like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Search and You Tube are easily accessible due to the Android operating system making web browsing pleasurable. Apart from supporting Gmail the phone also gives other email options like POP3 and IMAP accounts.
